Public Notice of 2020 Primary Election

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO THE ELIGIBLE VOTERS OF DES MOINES COUNTY, STATE OF IOWA, THAT A PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2020.

Polls will open at 7:00 AM and close at 9:00 PM. However due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, precincts have been temporarily combined to two locations for this election. Polling locations are:

Pct 1T SCC – Hall of Sciences Bldg, 1500 West Agency Rd., West Burlington (Includes Tama Twp)
Pct 2 SCC – Hall of Sciences Bldg, 1500 West Agency Rd., West Burlington
Pct 3 SCC – Hall of Sciences Bldg, 1500 West Agency Rd., West Burlington
Pct 4 SCC – Hall of Sciences Bldg, 1500 West Agency Rd., West Burlington

A sample ballot for each party appears with this notice and shows the first rotation of names. A full set of sample ballots are available for viewing on the Des Moines County website at www.dmcounty.com under the “Your Vote Counts” news headline. The following offices and candidates will appear on ballot styles according to the specific jurisdictions:

The 87th District includes; City of West Burlington; City of Burlington; Concordia and Tama Townships. Candidates are: Democrat - Dennis M. Cohoon and Republican – No Candidate

The 88th District includes: City of Danville; City of Mediapolis; City of Middletown; The following Townships: Benton, Danville, Flint River, Franklin, Huron, Jackson, Pleasant Grove, Union, Washington and Yellow Spring. Candidates are: Democrat – Sandy Dockendorff and Republican - David Kerr

Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered, such as voters registering to vote on Election Day and voters changing precincts, must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification, or prove residence if required: 1) may have voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct, 2) prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or 3) cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the County Auditor’s office by June 4th. Election Day Registrant attesters must provide an approved form of identification. Voter pre-registration deadline is May 22nd at 5:00 PM at the Des Moines County Auditor’s Office. Absentee ballots are available by mail or by curbside voting in the County Auditor’s office during regular business hours by appointment only due to COVID-19.

PUBLIC TEST OF VOTING EQUIPMENT

Public Testing of the Des Moines County voting equipment will begin on May 27th at 2:00 PM in the Public Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor at the Des Moines County Courthouse, according to the provisions of 52.35. The public is invited to attend.
