Notice is hereby given to the eligible voters of Des Moines County, State of Iowa, that the General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. Voters must vote in their precinct and polling place of residence. Please read this notice carefully to determine your correct voting location. If you are unsure of your voting location for this election, please contact the Des Moines County Auditor & Commissioner of Elections at 319-753-8232.
The polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered, such as voters registering to vote on Election Day and voters changing precincts, must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification or prove residence if required: 1) may have voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct, 2) prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or 3) cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the County Auditor’s office by noon on November 9th. Election Day Registrant attesters must provide an approved form of identification. Voter pre-registration deadline and vote by mail request deadline is October 19th at 5:00 PM at the Des Moines County Auditor’s Office. Absentee ballots voted in-person are available in the County Auditor’s office until November 2nd at 4:30 PM.
Any voter who is physically unable to enter a polling place has the right to vote in their vehicle. For further information, please contact the county auditor’s office at the telephone number or email address below.

Shall the following amendment to the Constitution be adopted?

The Constitution of the State of Iowa is amended by adding the following new section to new Article XIII:
Passage of a bill that increases the individual income tax rate or the corporate income tax rate, or the rate of any other type of tax based upon income or legal and special reserves, shall require the affirmative votes of at least two-thirds of the members elected to each house of the general assembly. This requirement does not apply to taxes imposed at the option of a local government. Passage of a bill that establishes a new tax on any type of income or legal and special reserves imposed by the state shall require the affirmative votes of at least two-thirds of the members elected to each house of the general assembly. A lawsuit challenging the proper enactment of a bill under this section must be filed no later than one year following the enactment. If such a lawsuit is not filed within the one-year limit, the bill shall be considered properly enacted under this section. Each bill to which this section applies must include a separate provision describing the requirements for enactment prescribed by this section. The general assembly shall enact laws to implement this section.
City of Burlington Public Measure GM
“Shall the City of Burlington, in Des Moines County, State of Iowa, enter into a loan agreement and issue general obligation bonds in an amount not exceeding $7,000,000 for the purpose of paying the cost, to that extent, of constructing, renovating and improving municipal swimming pool facilities?”
PUBLIC TEST OF VOTING EQUIPMENT
Public testing of the Des Moines County voting equipment will begin on October 30th at 10:00 AM in the Public Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor at the Des Moines County Courthouse, according to the provisions of 52.35. The public is invited to attend.
